Plan, Resource and Measure Operations That Run Smoothly
A structured development programme for people who run, or are growing into, business operations. Six units build study skills, service skills, an understanding of the business environment, people management, finance and information systems.

How the programme works
Each unit combines classroom sessions, time with a tutor and private study, and is worth 20 credits. Learners work to their own Individual Learning & Development Plan, which is reviewed with a tutor as they progress.

The six units
Skills Development
Learners find out what is expected in the first year of study, how to research and write assignments, and how to lay out a good piece of work using Harvard referencing. Creating and delivering presentations builds individual and group communication skills.

Service Skills for Work
Learners look at their sector, their workplace and their own role, and why training and development matter to the business. They build transferable skills and a work-related action plan, then design a business from scratch, exploring its functions and the part marketing plays in its success.

Organisation in its Environment
Learners focus on their own industry and the environmental factors that affect it, creating a SWOT and PESTLE analysis. They explore internal and external stakeholder responsibilities, and research sector trends to see how they could be used in the business.

Organisational Management
Learners explore what influences behaviour at different levels of an organisation. The unit covers human resource management, using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator to understand how people interact, and leadership and management theories for understanding and managing behaviour at work.

Financial Resourcing
Learners focus on their own business finances: cash flow, budgeting, regulatory bodies and how financial data can be used. They research practical concepts that affect business growth and stability, including the VAT structure, profit and loss, and running a working cash flow.

Business Information Systems
Learners focus on their own business systems, analysing ways to collect, evaluate and apply information and data to make better operational decisions. Each learner reviews their Individual Learning Plan and has time to complete it with guidance from tutors.
